When Should You Fumigate Your Home?

Most households only think about fumigation after they've already spotted a problem — a line of ants across the kitchen counter, a rustle in the ceiling at night, or bites appearing overnight with no obvious source. By the time you notice, an infestation is usually already established.

Termites are the most costly to ignore. They work silently inside wood, furniture, and door frames, and the visible damage — sagging frames, hollow-sounding wood, or discarded wings near windows — often means significant structural damage has already occurred.

Bedbugs are trickier because they hide in mattress seams, skirting boards, and furniture joints during the day and only come out at night. Small rust-coloured spots on your sheets are usually the first real clue, well before the bites themselves are noticeable.

Rodents tend to announce themselves faster — droppings near food storage, gnaw marks on cables or containers, and scratching sounds within wall cavities or ceilings are all signs that treatment shouldn't wait.

Baiting is usually the first and most effective step once rodent activity is confirmed. We place bait in sealed, tamper-resistant stations along walls, near food stores, and close to entry points rather than scattering it in the open — this keeps it away from pets and children while still sitting directly on the routes rodents actually travel. Bait is left to work over several days before stations are checked, topped up, or repositioned based on how much has been taken.

As a general rule, we recommend fumigating homes every three to six months as prevention, not just as a reaction. Regular treatment breaks the breeding cycle before it becomes visible, which is far cheaper and less disruptive than treating an established infestation.

Timing matters too. Pest activity typically rises during the rainy season as rising damp pushes termites and cockroaches indoors, so scheduling a treatment just before the rains start is one of the most effective things you can do.
